My Own Real Estate, Corp. was founded by Echo Cheng, a computer scientist with over 20 years of experience in the field. When her daughter went off to college far from home, Echo bought rental properties in the university town. Now a remote landlord, Echo encountered numerous problems dealing with the property management companies that she hired.

The property management statements she received did not match her bank statements. Echo did not receive consolidated performance reports and had no way to directly access the data herself. She was provided with minimal tax-related financial data, requiring that she spend an extensive amount of time preparing her annual tax forms.

Echo believed that there had to be a better way. She did thorough research on the property management software available. None met her needs. She found that many of the products were complex and designed to serve the information requirements of the property management company, not the landlord. Echo realized that there was a need for a solution that goes beyond standard accounting tasks and gives landlords as much robust property performance data as it gives property managers.

Driven to come up with a web-based property management solution that serves the needs of both landlords and property managers, Echo formed the My Own Real Estate, Corp. team and began building MORE Management in 2006.
